The use of the term 'ecumenical' in relation to the Patriarch and the Patriarchate is meant to imply the responsibility of the Patriarchate to strengthen the unity of the Orthodox Churches. Tthe Turkish Government however denies that the EP should use such a term as it implies for them that the Patriarchate has power or authority over someone other than the Greek minority in Turkey. This is unacceptable to the Turkish authorities.The Council of Europe (2009) however gave its opinion through the Venice Commission that no secular court has any competence or jurisdiction to rule on whether a religious leader is ecumenical or not.Colinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05592996036219096285noreply@blogger.com
